APT PUPIL
APT PUPIL IS A 1998 AMERICAN
PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER FILM DIRECTED BY BRYAN
SINGER AND BASED ON A NOVELLA BY STEPHEN
KING.
THE MOVIE IS INTERPRETED BY BRAD RENFRO
AS TODD BOWDEN AND BY IAN
MCKELLEN AS ARTHUR DENKER.
BOWDEN IS A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT WHO,
AFTER BEING FASCINATED BY THE HISTORY OF NAZISM, SPOTS A FUGITIVE NAZI GENERAL,
KURT DUSSANDER,WHO IS LIVING UNDER THE ASSUMED NAME OF ARTHUR DENKER, AND
BLACKMAILS HIM INTO REVEALING THE DETAILS OF THE ATROCITIES THE NAZI COMMITTED
DURING THE WAR.
THIS IS JUST
THE BEGINNING OF THE PLOT...
The acting is the best asset of the film:
both McKellen and Renfro give wonderful, captivating
performances.
The plot's very engrossing: the story is
about Todd Bowden, a high-school student obsessed with
the Holocaust, who learns that his
neighbour is an ex war criminal.
A series of blackmails begins between the
two main characters, and soon Todd finds himself inside
a whirl of evil and danger he hadn't been
expecting...
The plot is too stretched out and becomes
boring towards the middle of the movie, but the end will
capture your attention again.
All in all, this is an enjoyable source of
entertainment, but not a masterpiece.
we don't recommend “apt pupil” to young
audiences.
We recommend this film because it is mostly
a character study of the
two main protagonists.
Renfro is good as Bowden but McKellen is
superb as the evil-fatigued
Dussander.
The movie has the feel of a Stephen King
book.
it will scare
you without using much blood or violence.
Why watch this film?
It is a very effective example of how evil can be tempting and
entrancing and of the hold it can have on the human mind.
You should watch this film to learn about the holocaust from another
point of view, even if that is the worst point. it's important to understand
that what happened mustn’t happen again.
A great movie about evil and all its faces,
we’ll have to thank Stephen King once
again for his magnificent modern novella
about madness and death.
We think people should watch this movie
because it gives us true emotion and true
fear, it's a modern horror movie, different
from the ones we're used to watching.
At least you should see the film just
because the two main actors gave an
amazing acting performance!
the movie is a little too strong for me.
the story is interesting, but the movie is
not as good as it could be because at the beginning it was an interesting
thriller movie, but at the end it is only a horror movie, with blood and
violence.
Nevertheless, the actors gave a really good
interpretation.
I think the film is a great thriller story,
but it is not horror enough. It should have been more homogeneous: sometimes it
resulted boring or repetitive.
I think the film is great and the
interpretation good, anyway I reckon it could have been a lot better with more
blood.
The plot gets more complicated when Tod blackmails the old nazi saying
he has all their conversations written in a safe place.
The end is haunting, it leaves you stunned and disappointed at the same
time.
It is true that evil doesn't always get defeated, but this gives the
audience a bad idea about the future.
Go and watch it but don't hope you’ll feel happy at the end of it.
